How we design a playroom
We start with your child: her age, how she plays, what she loves and what she'll grow into. Then we plan a room that works for play now and still makes sense in a few years.
- Layout and zones. A reading nook, an art table, a pretend-play corner, open floor for building, and clear paths between them.
- Furniture and storage. Child-height shelving, built-in or freestanding cubbies, a table and chairs sized for her, and enough closed storage to hide the overflow.
- Color and finishes. Paint, wallpaper, rugs and fabrics that hold up to little hands. Washable and durable, and still beautiful.
- Lighting. Bright light for art and play, warm light for reading, and a soft glow for winding down.
- Play stations. Built-in invitations to play, such as a play kitchen, a little farm, a market stand or an art studio.
Design plan or full service
Design plan: a mood board, a layout and a shopping list you can buy from at your own pace.
Full service: we handle everything from ordering and deliveries to assembly, installation and styling, so the room is finished on install day.
Our signature: pink, girly playrooms
Blush walls, scalloped shelves, bows, florals and a little gold. Our Girlworld rooms are what we love most, but we design for every child, including neutral, sage, rainbow and Montessori-inspired rooms. Planning a bedroom too? See girls' bedroom design.
